When one city launched a study to examine whether certain ALS treatments were actually helping trauma victims, some residents worried researchers were “gambling with people’s lives.” The real question is, whose life is being gambled with: the patient receiving ALS care or the one receiving BLS? EMS dogma has often maintained that advanced life support equates to better care and better outcomes. A small minority considers ALS the ultimate snake oil. But what does the evidence really say? In this talk, Ed Racht, MD, chief medical officer for AMR, will challenge the profession to think differently about old assumptions and the meaning of ALS and BLS. His perspective is one you won’t want to miss.
