Business magazines are filled with stories of cool companies where dogs stroll down the hallways, the employee cantina is packed with crazy snacks and beverages, and you can access a free massage therapist on a break. While this may not be the norm for EMS agencies, there are a number of public safety organizations where people have a great time, stay and grow for their whole careers, and actively recruit the people they would love to work with. What are their leaders’ strategies for creating a culture that not only prepares providers for the stresses of out-of-hospital work, but provides an environment in which they thrive?
This session provides a prescription for what works. Todd Stout is the founder and CEO of FirstWatch, which helps hundreds of agencies improve performance. Mike Taigman, the FirstWatch improvement guide, has more than four decades of experience of EMS leadership as a paramedic, manager, consultant and educator.
